The History of Thanksgiving
Monday, November 24th, 2008Happy Thanksgiving!
I did a little research on the history of Thanksgiving in the
United States and wanted to share it with you…
In 1817, New York was the first state to adopt Thanksgiving
as an official holiday.
By the time the Civil War erupted in the 1860’s, every state
had also made Thanksgiving a state holiday.
In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln declared a national day of
Thanksgiving on the last Thursday of November.
Since that time, every president has issued a Thanksgiving Day
Proclamation every Thanksgiving, declaring it to be a national
day of thanks.
In 1939, President Franklin Roosevelt declared that the
Thanksgiving would be on the third Thursday in November.
Congress approved that declaration two year later in 1941.
So what are your plans for this Thanksgiving day?
What are you grateful for?
Who are you grateful for?
What are your favorite foods on Thanksgiving?
What are your favorite desets for Thanksgiving?
Do you watch the parades on TV?
Go ahead and leave a comment about what you like or will be doing
on Thanksgiving….
At the very least, call somebody you haven’t talked to in a long
time. Tell them that you love them and let them know you were
thinkng about them…
Looks like Vickie and I will be having some people over…
We’ll be eatting, watching TV and Playing music!
But also know, on this day we will be saying a very special
prayer for all our friends.
We are grateful for your friendship.
We are grateful that you are in our life!
Peace, Many Blessings and Lot’s of Cash!
Robby
