I Bumped Into Wayne Gretzky!

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

One of the things I just love about Las Vegas is the the great entertainment and sports events that come here. On any given night you can witness people that are the very best in the world in their field.

This past Sunday I got a call to play a gig at the magnificent Bellagio Hotel Casino on Las Vegas Blvd. I was hired to play the first hour out on the patio looking over the private pool area, then move inside to perform while the guest had dinner.

I was out on the patio getting set up and a number of people were out there, I bumped into something, turned and looked over my shoulder and said, "That looks like Wayne Gretzky, the hockey great Hall of Famer." The lady next to me said, "That is Wayne Gretzky!"

I then realized I was standing near a guy that is known as the best in the world at what he does. The very best! Think about that a moment. In any category in life be it sports, music, teaching, sales, there are only a few in each category that ever reach the top of the top. The best of the best.

For those of you that don't know who Wayne is, his nickname was "The Great One", recognized as the greatest hockey player of all time.

What immediately came to mind was, all the things he had to do, over many years of honing his craft to be the very best. He did what most were not willing to do. He practiced longer. He practiced harder. Was passionate, consistent and unrelenting in his pursuite of excellence...It's a mind set. It's an attitude.

Some Wayne Gretzky Quotes Include:
"I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been."

"I wasn't naturally gifted in terms of size and speed; everything I did in hockey I worked for, and that's the way I'll be as a coach."

"Procrastination is one of the most common and deadliest of diseases and its toll on success and happiness is heavy."

"The highest compliment that you can pay me is to say that I work hard every day, that I never dog it."

"The only way a kid is going to practice is if it's total fun for him... and it was for me."

"You miss 100% of the shots you don't take."
------------------------------------------------------
Can you relate to any of those quotes?

Bumping into Wayne Gretzky, "The Great One", was a gentle reminder for me to look at areas in my life that need more discipline, focus, and training. Inside each of us is a World Champion.

What steps can you take today that will move you closer to your dreams?
Now go discover the Wayne Gretzky inside of you.

Have a Wonder Filled Week,

Las Vegas Guitarist Plays Fragile

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

A few weeks ago I was invited to sit in and play with the group
Odyessy in Las Vegas. The song they invited me to play was
"Fragile"  written by Sting. It is a haunting and beautiful melody.

Hope you enjoy it...

I look forward to your comments...

It’s My Birthday!

Sunday, August 16th, 2009

August 17 is my B Day!Tonight we went out with a few friends and had a nice meal
at Buca de Bepo. We celebrated tonight because Monday nights
Vickie has choir and didn't want her to miss rehersal...

 Anyway...
Another year has come
and gone! It is amazing how fast the
years seem to go by so quickly. I started writing in my journal
a number of things I thought I would have done or had
accomplished by age 50.

I'm on track with some things and way off track with others.
Later this week maybe I'll share some things I am considering
changing.

The one thing I really appreciate and I am very grateful
for are my freinds.
I have some really great people in my
life. Maybe some day I'll throw a huge party in Las Vegas
so all my friends from all over the world can just meet
each other. Between Vickie and I, we have a rainbow
of interesting people we are honored to call our friends.

Anyway, thanks for all your comments on face book and other
social media outlets. And to those that sent cards, Thank you!

If it's your birthday this month Happy Birthday to you too!

Tomorrow I'll be posting a video I created for a recent
class project at church. It's called "Finding God".

That's all for now...

Have a wonderful day!

Strings For Tibet – Cavatina

Monday, April 27th, 2009

I opened the Las Vegas "Strings For Tibet" Concert with a
song by Stanley Meyers called Cavatina. This song was featured
in the movie the Deer Hunter with Robert DeNiro.

I used a Godin Guitar Synthesizer with a Roland VG-99. With this
combination I was able to create a Sitar/Guitar sound. It sounded great.
This piece was originally written for Classical Guitar and Orchestra. In this
version, I improvised an solo introduction just playing my guitar synthesizer.
The band doesn't come in for a minute or two. Notice the Sitar/Bells
sound...After the video, tell me what you think...

I look forward to your comments...

The Cops Had Me Surrounded!

Monday, April 6th, 2009

Last night I played a music gig at the Flamingo Hotel Casino.
On the way home I stopped at 7/11 to pick up some oil for my car.
There was only one car in the parking lot I wasn't in the store more
than 2 minutes. I started walking back to my car which was at the
gas pump when suddently...

Wam! Sirens Blowing! Cop cars everywhere! I am surrounded by cop cars
and police officiers with gun drawn! At least a dozen flew into the 7/11
parking lot in seconds. I just stood still to see what was going on.
There was another guy at the gas pump pumping gas. Then 3 more cop
cars came from 2 different direction at Desert Inn and Eastern, directly
in front of the 7/11.

Cops came out with guns drawn! Then on the speaker, "Get out of
the car with your hands up", now
!"  They guy at the gas pump ask
me, "what should we do?" I said don't even move! Cops were all over the
parking lot, guns everywhere, arresting  about 5-7 people.

This all happened in about 45 - 60 seconds...

I really likes those shorts!

And how was your weekend?
Comments on this post are welcome...

Have a Great Day,
