The Ganges River was was one of the stops in India Vickie and I made with the
group we were traveling with. Thousands of people visit here every day. Holimen
at every turn.

As we walked along the Ganges River bank, we saw people praying, walking,
chanting, smoking dope, smiling, practicing unique spiritual practices and
extreme poverty. It is a place of awe and wonder.

The people come to wash away their sins and cleanse their soul.
The only way to do that is to go dunk your entire body in the
freezing cold water, and it's cold!

The Ganges River, considered the most holy river in India is 1557 miles long (2506 km)
The Ganga is also mentioned in the Rig-Veda, one of the earliest of Hindu scriptures.

It has been said, for Hindus in India, the Ganga is not just a river but a mother, a
goddess and a tradition.  It is a culture all by itself.

You'll see me with my guitar, with the Himalayas  and the Ganges River
in the background in the following video. It's important to note that the
river starts in an ice cave on the southern slopes of the Himalayas,
 about 10,300 feet above sea level.

The Ganges River flows east and empties into the Bay of Bengal.
