upcoming event with a Tibetan Master this Sunday.

Khen Rinpoche Lobzang Tsetan - Workshop/Fundraiser
When:
Sunday, March 22, 2009
Where: Spiritual Life Center - 1420 E. Harmon Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89119
Time: 1:00 Pm
Cost: Free, donations will be accepted.

Please Note:
I will be playing my guitar during the church service if you would also like to attend that at:
9:00 am and 10:30. I will also be attending this once in a lifetime event with Khen Rinpoche.

KHEN RINPOCHE LOBZANG TSETAN is a Tibetan Buddhist Monk of the Gelug-pa lineage (the same as the Dalai Lama), with the highest degree obtainable in Tibetan Buddhist metaphysics and philosophy. He was recently enthroned as the head abbot of the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in exile. This is the Panchen Lama’s Monastery outside of Tibet. His new title of Khen Rinpoche recognizes him as a precious high lama.

Khen Rinpoche Tsetan began his monastic life at age 7, in his native village of Stok, Ladakh. When he was 15 years old he walked with his father from Ladakh, India, to Shigatse, Tibet, to enter the (Panchen Lama's) famous Tashi Lhunpo Monastery. The 800-mile trek took them over two months to complete, most of it barefooted.

He left Tibet in 1960, after the Chinese occupation made it impossible for him to continue his studies there. He returned to his home in Ladakh and continued to pursue his training in India, in the monasteries established there in exile. In the late 1970s he was invited to the USA where he learned English, and taught classes at the Tibetan Buddhist Learning Center in NJ, Smith College, Bates College, Hampshire College, Wesleyan University, and conferences at Harvard and Princeton, and more.

In 1995, Khen Rinpoche Geshe Tsetan founded The Siddhartha School in his native home in Ladakh. The school seeks to preserve Tibetan Buddhist Culture and language while giving the children of this remote Himalayan area a well-rounded education, which will allow them to represent themselves and their culture in this newly evolving global community.

Shortly after that, H.H. Dalai Lama, appointed Geshe Tsetan to be the head abbot of the new Tashilungpo Monastery in India. (This is in the absence of the Panchen Lama, who has been missing since the Chinese Government took him and his family into custody when he was 4 years old.) This was a great honor, but one that was humbly set aside, so that he could devote himself completely to the Siddhartha School, with the Dalai Lama's blessings and support.

In January of 2005 HHDL again asked if Geshe Tsetan would accept the abbotship, and this time he could not refuse. In July 2005 he was installed as Kachen, or head Abbot of the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in southern India. His new title is Khen Rinpoche Geshe Kachen Lobzang Tsetan, and he has assumed his new responsibilities overseeing the Tashi Lhunpo monastery in exile. He is now, in essence doing the Panchen Lama's job. For more information on this go to the website: www.tashilhunpo.org.

in Las Vegas. I've been here over 10 years now and I have seen it snow
a little bit here in there. The mountains almost always get covered every winter.

But this past week we actually got 6 inches of snow! Here is a short video

I Want a Super Bailout For Christmas!

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

Hi,

With the economy being what it is and all the "Bailout" News, I got inspired
to write this short lyric called" I Want a Super Bailout For Christmas".

I also make reference to the Car guys wanting a bailout, but as I said in the video,
there was a documentary film a few years ago called " Who Killed The Electric Car".

It kind of flew under the radar, but the fact is, the car guys hurts us back in the
1990's when they killed the electric car.. Here's a link to it if you are interested.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the Video and the music clips..

Is American Idol a Good Thing?

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

I'd like to start wihth a quote...

Quote of the week:
"Music is spiritual. The music business is not."
Van Morrison

Today's Topic...Is American Idol a Good Thing?

I get asked by a lot of people at my shows...
What do you really think of "American Idol" and other
similar TV shows?

First, you gotta know where I'm coming from.
I never really believed in music competitions to
start with.

Think about that Van Morrison quote from above...
"Music is Spiritual...The Business is not!"

How can you judge ones passion?
How can you judge ones vision?
How can you judge ones expression?

In sports you have winners and losers.

In boxing or ultimate fighting you knock a guy out
or he knocks you out. The last guy standing wins!

Baseball, Basketball, Tennis, Soccer...
He with the most points wins!

Running, Skiing, biking,...
The best time wins!

When it comes to music how do you judge one master
against another? Some people like Bach while
others love Mozart!

When it comes to music, you can to a certain degree
evaluate ones technique on the instrument.

You can have an opinion about ones interpretation.

Does the performer have excellent dynamic control of
there instrument? How is there intimation?

Do they keep good tempo?

Bottom line, when it comes to a certain level of
excellence, it comes down to a matter of taste.

Now let's look at American Idol...
What do they say is the purpose of the show?

We the audience are told the purpose is to find
the very next best singer.

But look closely at what we really get.
We have Pretty Paula...
Ready Randy...and
Sick Simon

Like the old Clint Eastwood Movie,..
The Good - The Bad and The Ugly!

Let me clarify, I am not calling anyone ugly...
As a matter of fact I hate that word...

If the show was just with Paula and Randy, you'd
fall asleep. They are nice people and all...

But it's Simon that provides the spice!

People tune in to watch and see Simon ripped the heart
out of some ones dream!

People tune in to see Simon demean another human being.

People tune in to see Simon crush a persons hope.

Mix that with a boat load of performers with various levels
of talent, skill, and years of experience...

What have you got? ENTERTAINMENT!
There you have it!

So what do I think of American Idol?
I say, if you are a performer, go for it.
Make the best use of it. It you lose, learn what you
can from it.

It you win, learn how to leverage the experience!
Either way, just keep learning!

And don't let anyone get in the way of your dream!

What do you think? Leave your comment.

You Make It a Great Day!
