Comedy Legend George Carlin died on June 22, 2008.

May 12, 1937 – June 22, 2008…Rest in Peace….

When I heard the news it just stopped me in my tracks.
There isn’t comic alive that has not been influenced or touched by George
Carlin one way or another.

His fan base ranged from ages 7 – 70! He touched everybody!
He became famous for his bit about  “The original seven dirty words.”

His insights, masterful use of words, and genius story telling kept
people on the edge of their seat. The amount of material he created
was enormous.

I heard comic Bill Maher recently talking about George Carlin, that
Maher had done 2 HBO specials while Carlin has done 11 HBO specials.

This is a huge amount of material and work.
I never met George Carlin but he was on my list of people to meet.

My good friend Jimm Wiggins known as “The Last Hippie in America”
and also a standup comic grew up with George Carlin. I talked
with Jim briefly on the phone the day after of George’s passing.
Jim had some insights about George that I’ll share at another time…

Anyway…
I could go on about my thoughts about George Carlin but at this
moment I feel it’s best to just hear what George has to say…
I can’t remember who but someone sent me the following George
Carlin material a while back and I think George says it best…Check it out..

A Message by George Carlin:

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings
but shorter tempers, wider Freeways , but narrower viewpoints. We
spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger
houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time.

We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment,
more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too
little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too
tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk
too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life. We’ve added years
to life not life to years. We’ve been all the way to the moon and back,
but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor.

We conquered outer space but not inner space.
We’ve done larger things, but not better things.

We’ve cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We’ve conquered the
atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more,
but accomplish less. We’ve learned to rush, but not to wait. We build
more computers to hold more information,to produce more copies than ever,
but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small
character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days
of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes.

These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality,
one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from
cheer, to quiet, to kill.

It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in
the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and
a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit
delete…

Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going
to be around forever.

Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that
little person soon will grow up and leave your side.
 
Remember, to give a warm hug  to the one next to you, because that is
the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn’t cost a cent.

Remember, to say, “I love you” to your partner and your loved ones, but most
of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep
inside of you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will
not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious
thoughts in your mind.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments
that take our breath away.

Happy Fathers Day Day!
I’ve got a great dad a I dedicate this post to Joseph V. LeBlanc He’s my hero!

I did some research about the history of fathers day and this is what I came up with…

The History of Father’s Day…

Contrary to popular misconception, “Fathers Day” was not established as a holiday in order to help greeting card manufacturers sell more cards.

The fact is when a “father’s day” was first proposed there were no Father’s Day cards at all!

Mrs. John B. Dodd, of Washington, first proposed the idea of a “father’s day” in 1909. Mrs. Dodd wanted a
special day to honor her father, William Smart.

William Smart, a Civil War veteran, was widowed when his wife (Mrs. Dodd’s mother) died in childbirth with their sixth child. Mr. Smart was left to raise the newborn and his other five children by himself on a rural farm in eastern Washington state.

It was after Mrs. Dodd became an adult that she realized the strength and selflessness her father had shown in raising his children as a single parent.

The first Father’s Day was observed on June 19, 1910 in Spokane Washington.

At about the same time in various towns and cities across American other people were beginning to celebrate a “father’s day.”.

In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge supported the idea of a national Father’s Day.

Then in 1966 President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the 3rd Sunday of June as Father’s Day.

Finally in 1972 President Richard Nixon signed the law which made “Fathers Day” permanent.
